Ucluelet's Army, Navy, Airforce Veterans Hall 293 is an essential cultural and entertainment hub in the region. After the last "proper" bar shut down in Ucluelet a few years back local bands, DJ's, karaoke fans and others had nowhere to go. A dedicated group on the board of directors and dedicated volunteer staff put countless hours into making the 80 year old hall into a viable venue not just for private functions but as a stop on tours for comedians, musicians and other entertainment. As a working musician and music lover this is a key quality of life component of the community.
Together with the Pacific Rim Arts Society they have hosted multiple "Battle of The Bands" events that have led to the formation of some of the region's most recognizable groups. In addition to their own bingo and poker events their volunteers also staff the gaming portion of Ukee Days to raise money for the Pacific Rim Hospice Society. They also hosts artisan markets and gatherings for other non-profits. Other noteworthy events have included youth music nights organized and performed by local high-schoolers and a Mario Kart tournament (which I won)
If you find yourself in Ucluelet looking for some evening entertainment be sure to see what might be happening at the ANAF. The easiest way is probably to check out their Facebook page.
